How to reconfigure and reshape 3D objects through my 2D graphic representation?
Concept:
I chose Alvar Aalto's Savoy Vase as my subject to examine how 3D objects can be translated into 2D graphic design. Based on net drawings of the 3D object, I translated its shape into 2D and printed it using Risograph to represent the overlapping coloured textures of the glass.
Experiment:
If the vase is converted into a paper material (a typical material in graphic design),
what changes occur in its function as a vase?
Outcome:
Of course, paper materials cannot hold water and will lose the smashability of glass.
